Name:
Scott Semmler

Alias:
Scotty

Band:
Wicked Empire

In less than 50 words describe your music, your band (if applicable) and yourself.
Wicked Empire are an all-original rock band from Adelaide, South Australia that deliver a variety of music styles from hard hitting rock to soaring melodic anthems. Wicked Empire believe that ultimately it is all about people having a great time enjoying local home-grown music

I grew up listening to the classic rock of the late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and still believe it was the best time of rock music. I guess it was all new and fresh but also as someone who records music, I appreciate that it was all real. No cut n paste and auto tune back then… What we hear is the real deal.

60’s or 70’s Music:
70’s

Forged in Fire

The Best live artist/band you’ve seen:

Your “In the mood for love” song;
Tuesdays Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Your favourite Saturday night party record?
Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy

Your favourite Sunday morning chill out record?
Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Which song do you wish you had written?
So so many but will say Brought Down by Thin Lizzy

Roger Daltry once said “Rock N Roll has no future”. Do you agree with him?
I hate to admit it but as I’ve become older and still playing in a band, I feel my generation is the last of the band lovers. The music scene is just not the same as it was. The venues have changed and along the way we lost our incredibly unique Aussie pub rock identity. When I lived and played in London in the mid 90’s I was very aware of how special Oz rock is because I never saw it anywhere else that I travelled too. It was a unique moment in time and we have all the great music from those bands to prove it. ACDC, Angels, Rose Tattoo etc

Vinyl, CD or Streaming?
Vinyl and Reel to Reel for me

If you could record or play live with any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?
Phil Lynott Thin Lizzy

What is the most useless talent you have?
Is there such a thing as a useless talent? I have an eye for level from my days as a working as a carpenter which at times makes things stand out that maybe most people wouldn’t notice.

Our debut album Wicked Empire

Favourite all time movie;
Planet of the Apes the original with Charlton Heston

Who would you rather be for a day, Mick Jagger or Keith Richard?
Keith 25 years ago but maybe Mick now

Best show you have ever played in your career;
Bulldog Bash 1997 at Shakespeare County Raceway, Stratford-upon-Avon England in front of 3000 people in a beer tent. The Bulldog Bash was an annual motorcycle rally like Ponde here in SA. I remember Bruce Dickenson headlined and Skunkhour also performed. The rest is blurry

Paul McCartney or Neil Young?
Neil Young

Who is the nicest person in Rock n Roll at the moment?
Dave Grohl

What do you hope the next 12 months holds for you?
Keep playing and recording original rock music with my great band of brothers
