New York Fashion Week: JUST IN XX Runway/ Post Show

By Tony Polese · On September 11, 2018

Fashion Label JUST IN XX Presented F@$HITION

At New York Fashion Week

Sunday, September 9, 2018

WHO: Fashion Designer Justin Yu-Ying Chou of the label JUST IN XX

WHAT: Designer Justin YU-Ying Chou of the label JUST IN XX presented F@$HITION, his SS19 collection at New York Fashion Week on Sunday, September 9th.  The collection blurs the boundaries between modern life and art. In an era that largely still worships a specific type of prettiness, Chou seeks to disrupt the idea of beauty in any standard form. The Taiwanese street wear designer is no stranger to dichotomy, a theme woven throughout the collection’s concept. Built on the belief that “old is new” and “local is global,” Chou uses unbalanced geometric lines, twisted patterns and distressed tailoring to further toy with the idea of high quality fashion. Using clothing as an outlet to criticize the age of mass social media use and widespread photo retouching, Chou expresses himself through a refined yet blasé approach to the collection. In the evolving fashion world there is also a demand for perfection that lies beneath. F@$HITION is both an artistic reaction and a collection about reclaiming identity. It’s about the power of rebranding unique as its own kind of beauty, and each piece illustrates this through the sophistication of the imperfect. The designer presented his collection on both professional models and specially cast members of the public to exemplify the theme of diversity.

WHERE: Spring Studios

WHEN: Sunday, September 9th

WHY/ABOUT: Justin, Yu-Ying Chou, a graduate from the Domus Academy in Milan, followed his passion, launching Just In Case, in 2013, which showcases his vision of street fashion and philosophy of cultural diversity. With Chou’s growing background in Taiwan and professional training in Italy and the UK, he incorporates both Western and traditional Oriental elements into his at-times, conflicting aesthetic. Bringing together the “East cultural bond with western structures” is a concept always evident in each new season’s designs, injecting refined, classic, and high-quality undertones into each look, demonstrating a unique, avant-garde character. Just In Case has been already popular among celebrities and stylists, and known as one of the most impressive and daring street style brands on the market. Named as Taiwan’s most rebellious designer, Chou, was selected into the World’s up-and-coming fashion talents by Ellefashionnow.com (2017), awarded ELLE’s New Talented Award (2015) and was reviewed as “The 18 wildest looks from New York Fashion Week” by Business Insider (2017).
