International designer Cynthia Rowley to debut collection in Sydney
SYDNEY (Friday April 22, 2016) – IMG today announced additional designers joining the schedule for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2016. More than 65 designers are confirmed to take part in Australia’s premiere fashion industry event, showcasing Resort Collections at Carriageworks, Sunday 15 May 2016 through Friday 20 May 2016.
Cynthia Rowley will travel to Sydney to showcase a Resort Collection comprised of ready-to-wear, swimwear and her signature wetsuits on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia runway for the first time. The New York City-based designer is renowned for her sporty silhouettes and artistic patterns.
Other designers joining the prestigious lineup include Romance Was Born, who celebrates its tenth consecutive year on schedule, c/meo collective, HAN, and leading Australian stylist Marina Afonina’s new label Albus Lumen. YUXIN, an emerging Chinese designer, will showcase her first Resort Collection in Sydney. Additionally, Australia-bred New York-based designers Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of TOME will return home to the Sydney runways.
Special events throughout the week include:
Clean Cut Fashion, Microsoft Surface and Ragtrader will host three thought leadership seminars focused on the future of the fashion industry:
· Clean Cut Fashion will present a forward-thinking panel under the theme of Collaboration. The panelists fashion label TOME, Lucy King (Sustainability, Country Road), and Sigrid McCarthy (Ethical Clothing Australia/Editor Intent Journal), will discuss the power of collectively making a positive impact in the fashion industry.
· Microsoft Surface will bring together some of Australia’s leading designers, entrepreneurs and influencers to discuss the future of the fashion industry and the pivotal role technology plays. Discussions will be on trends, design and manufacturing, and how the industry is evolving.
· The Ragtrader Live business conference will gather global retailer leaders in Sydney, including Natalie Kingham (Buying Director, Matches Fashion), to discuss the winning formulas behind success in the fashion industry in an intimate panel setting. Since launching in 2013, the conference has included speakers such as Nicky Zimmermann, executives from ASOS and David Jones, as well as influencers such as Margaret Zhang.
“Three Women Arrive,” a fashion film featuring leading Australian designers Dion Lee, Ellery and Maticevski by London-based SHOWstudio filmmaker Marie Schuller, will premiere as part of the official schedule at Carriageworks.
