2019’s Superloop Adelaide 500 will mark a first for the domestic motorsport calendar’s premier event, with Supercars to hit the track for its first session on Thursday night.
Reserved entirely for feature race categories in the previous 20 events at the Adelaide Street Circuit, Thursday will play host to a twilight opening practice session for the Virgin Australia Supercars.
It injects even more value into a four-day ticket to the event, following the announcement of the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing Sunday’s closing concert, and the race’s status as the debut of the new Ford Mustang Supercar.
“Staging the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship on all four days of the Superloop Adelaide 500 is a real coup,” said Minister Ridgway.
“The extra practice session on Thursday is just one of the many ways we are creating more value for ticket holders. This event is not to be missed.”
The announcement comes with the release of session segments for the four days of racing.
With individual session times to be finalised, the three daily categories are split into morning, afternoon and twilight segments.
Recently-crowned Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin says the twilight practice will make things interesting for the field.
“The twilight sessions will provide a new challenge for all of us drivers in Adelaide,” he said.
“The circuit is a tough one anyway, so I’m looking forward to the additional test. Adelaide always delivers intense, wheel-to-wheel racing and 2019 will be no exception.”
The 2019 on-track Schedule also sees the addition of twilight racing on the Saturday of the event, allowing fans to see their favourite drivers on track throughout the entire day.
