The Santos Festival of Cycling launched today ahead of the 2020 Santos Tour Down Under, celebrating the associated events which bring cycling fanatics, sports lovers and casual observers the colour and excitement outside of the racing spectacle that is Australia’s Greatest Cycling Race.
The event was officially launched at the City of Adelaide Tour Village today when the last lap bell was rung and fans, participants, staff and volunteers ran through the banner to signify that the Santos Festival of Cycling is almost here.
The Santos Women’s Tour Down Under kicks off on Thursday 16 January with Ziptrak Stage 1 alongside a host of participation events in the Subaru Breakaway Series. The Santos Festival of Cycling is an 11-day celebration of events that creates a huge party atmosphere and showcases the very best of South Australia.
Acting Premier of South Australia, Vickie Chapman said today that the Santos Tour Down Under and all of the wonderful cycling events that take place over the next fortnight will showcase to the world just how amazing our wonderful State is.
“I urge all South Australians to get involved over the next few weeks, whether it’s getting out to support the cyclists in our regions or visiting the Tour Village here, there really is so much to see and do.”
Hitaf Rasheed, Executive Director, Events South Australia said the associated events held in the suburbs and regions will host some of the world’s best riders over the next two weeks.
“The Santos Tour Down Under including the Santos Festival of Cycling brings tens of thousands of visitors to South Australian regions every year where they can explore and enjoy the hospitality and sights that our state has to offer,” said Hitaf Rasheed.
“The City of Adelaide Tour Village will come alive from Saturday 18 January with the Team Presentation and Free Concert presented by BikeExchange, where teams will be presented to the crowd for the very first time and Australian pop sensations The Veronicas will perform live from 8:30pm,” she said.
“The Santos Festival of Cycling calendar is packed full of events to suit everyone, from a free community breakfast in Hahndorf, Murray Bridge and Nairne to Cooking with Gas with Simon Bryant in the Santos Marquee at the City of Adelaide Tour Village.”
“The Subaru Breakaway Series also presents opportunities for cycling fans to get on the bike and participate themselves, with the Westpac Challenge Tour presented by The Advertiser, Westpac Family Ride and Westpac Mini Tour for Kids.”
The 2019 Santos Tour Down Under injected $70.7 million into the state’s visitor economy and created the equivalent of 837 full time jobs.
