The Gold Cup is one of the most highly anticipated events on Mount Gambier’s social calendar, and this year race-goers pulled out all the stops – from the tops of their towering crowns, to their stiletto strapped toes.
Attendees graced the field injecting a range of looks from slim line sweeping skirts with fluted hems; feminine floaty florals in pink, red and crimson hues; thigh-high split pants showcasing long, elegant lines; through to tailored statement suits with daring cuts and plunging neck lines in bold shades.
Local stylist and image consultant, Kellie Nobes (@what.kel.wore) shared her top tips to perfect any look for the 2017 racing season.
‘Dress for the weather. Layers add depth to an outfit, and a tailored coat or blazer will add another level – maybe the extra level needed when deciding a placement in Fashion on the Field. Also, it’s so important to always research the trends. This year we’re focusing in on sleeve details: bell sleeves, frills and ruffles. Crowns are particularly the favoured head piece over the traditional fascinators as they’re growing larger and more intricate than ever before. They really are a statement piece, and when mixed with forest colours including reds, greens and deeper shades of blue, you’ll create a memorable look that showcases your personality and style.’
The only common feature amongst the crowds were the elaborately crafted crowns by local millinery and bridal accessories designer, Ashlee Lauren Designs.
Since beginning bridal accessories in 2012, Ashlee Kalantarian, the talent behind Ashlee Lauren Designs, ventured into millinery wear in 2016 when seeking an avenue that permitted her to explore the lengths of her creativity. In pursuing greater freedom and flexibility in styles, materials, and colour palettes, Ashlee has and continues to transform and set trends combining bold designs, delicate materials and soft shades to higher levels than many key contenders within the industry.
Not only did she create an exquisite bespoke piece for us to strut in the lavish Koonara Platinum Marquee, but she also shared a few secrets with us for her upcoming collection. Expect to see nature-inspired crowns with legions of flowers and more embellished details. We’re not sure how it’s possible to top what we’ve already seen, but we’re sure she’ll shock, surprise and delight with a towering range.
In a flamboyant world where her cool, clever and artistic efforts have flourished, Millinery wear will be Ashlee’s predominant focus moving forward. Her sights are set on Melbourne Cup, Adelaide Fashion Festival, and perhaps events on a more global scale – more details to come.
