Melbourne United has won the 2018 Hungry Jack’s NBL Championship after defeating the Adelaide 36ers by 18 points in the fifth and deciding game at Hisense Arena.
In front of a sell-out crowd of 10,300 fans, Melbourne proved too strong for Adelaide, 100-82, to clinch the series 3-2 and win its first ever NBL title.
Melbourne captain Chris Goulding was awarded the Larry Sengstock Medal as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Grand Final Series after another stand out performance with an equal game high 23 points.
Melbourne set up its win with a dominant first quarter led by Goulding and Casper Ware who also finished with 23 points. Adelaide did its best to match Melbourne in the second and third quarters but were overrun in the final period as the home side romped to victory.
United is the first Melbourne team to win the title since the South Dragons back in 2009. It caps off a dominant year for Melbourne which finished on top of the ladder at the end of the regular season.
