The eyes of the world will be again watching Adelaide from today, with international cycling teams arriving this evening in preparation for the 2019 Santos Tour Down Under.
The first four international teams, BORA-hansgrohe, Lotto-Soudal, Deceuninck–Quick-Step and Education First arrive with their full rosters today.
Italian, Elia Viviani has been confirmed to lead the Deceuninck–Quick-Step here in Adelaide as well as being honoured at the Legends’ Night Dinner.
Hitaf Rasheed, Executive Director, Events South Australia confirmed the news this afternoon.
“We are thrilled to announce that Deceuninck–Quick-Step rider Elia Viviani will be attending the Santos Tour Down Under Legends’ Night Dinner, at which we will also be honouring Australians Mathew Hayman and Amanda Spratt.
“Viviani is one of the true characters of the Tour, and last year took out seven grand tour stage wins across the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana, as well as being a track cycling gold medallist champion in the Omnium.
“Following the tragic passing of Paul Sherwen, the dinner will also feature a special tribute by his long-term broadcast partner and close friend Phil Liggett.
“Meanwhile, it’s with regret that we advise that Mario Cipollini will no longer be attending the Santos Tour Down Under in 2019 and will not be participating in the Legends’ Night Dinner, due to personal reasons,” said Hitaf Rasheed.
