The stakes have never been higher. The players are ready. The pitch is primed. Will you be there when the Caltex Socceroos take on Saudi Arabia at Adelaide Oval next week?
Great seats are still available for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, which kicks off at 7:30pm on Thursday 8 June and is a crucial step in the Socceroos’ road to Russia.
Saudi Arabia is placed second in Group B and has equal points to group leader Japan, with Australia three points back. Teams in first and second after the group qualifiers are automatically accepted into the World Cup; the Socceroos are hungry for victory and now’s your chance to be part of the excitement and help them over the line.
Australia’s 23-man squad includes local players James Troisi and brothers Dylan and Ryan McGowan. The Socceroos arrive in Adelaide from tomorrow and will also take part in a free fan day on Sunday 4 June at Adelaide Oval. Action begins at 3pm in Telstra Plaza and features fun activities including soccer darts, face painting and the ALDI MiniRoos Zone. Team training starts at 4pm, with the chance to meet players and have merchandise signed afterwards.
Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou says fans’ support is vital.
“Particularly in World Cup qualifiers, the Socceroos are not just a show that comes into town,” he says.
“These games are important, when we play away from home the opposition has every advantage on their side, they get the crowd behind them and the pitch they want.
“When we play I want the same, we want to put pressure on the opposition.”
