Fifa fair play…? Didn’t see much of that last night, but we did see a clinical display of making the most of nothing from Perth Glory playmaker Diego Castro, his superb case for A league dive of the year earned a penalty right on half time. His spot kick and resulting goal squared the ledger at 1-1. The game would end all square.
The Reds looked a different side to last time these teams squared off. There was no five to nil drubbing on this Friday night match up. Attacking play from Reds midfielders Carussca and McGee, combined with blistering wing runs from Cirio and Melusnic and the glowing strike presence of Adelaide newbie Diawara ensured that Adelaide was on constant attack all match. With McGowan scoring again for the reds and missing an absolute sitter early in the first half, the Reds showed what possession, attack and defensive composure can do to a side…basically play quality football and get some A-League respect back.
As for Perth, they are looking clearly at the bigger picture, finals football and utilising their quick breaks to win matches. For those that missed the incident, jump online and catch Castro’s dive of the year…it’s a big talking point, McGowan did make minimal contact, but the pressure would have barely been enough to blow a candle out. For the knockers of the round game it’s incidents like these that gives ammunition to those that say “at times round ball boys are overpaid princesses.” If Warren Beatty is handing out Oscars at next year’s Academy Awards, then Castro should book his flight over to Hollywood!
