Last year’s A League champions Adelaide United remain winless in season 2016/17 after a 1-1 draw with 2nd placed Brisbane Roar tonight at Coopers Stadium.
Despite some incredible storms and hail earlier on in the day the game which was played as part of Remembrance round, the match was played in perfect conditions and a great crowd of 9.146 people.
Neither team scored in the first half despite both teams having 4 shots at goal each and missing some easy chances. Dylan McGowan may regret missing a simple header late in the 1st half which would have given Adelaide the lead.
Brisbane made Adelaide pay dearly in the 2nd half when veteran and former socceroo Brett Holman scored a terrific goal just outside the box to give The Roar the lead. Just as Adelaide were looking down the barrel of another defeat, a terrific header by star striker Sergi Guardiola equalized for the Reds and the game ended up finishing 1-1.
Young Red, Jordan O’Doherty won the Thomas Dale Medal for outstanding sportsmanship and was prominent throughout. Ben Garrucio, skipper Eugene Galekovic and Isaias all played well for the home side.
