Back by popular demand, Ice Hockey Classic is returning to Australian shores for a five-leg tour in June 2016 – and this time Wayne Gretzky, the world’s greatest ever ice hockey player, will be hosting the event in Sydney!
In a series contested between two of the great sporting rivals, teams representing the USA and Canada will visit Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and, for the first time, Adelaide.
The endorsement of Wayne Gretzky will ensure an even stronger calibre of players for the event, and ‘The Great One’ himself will be attending the Sydney match at Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday 25 June.
Ice Hockey Classic was hugely successful in 2015 and included National Hockey League (NHL) stars Brent Burns (San Jose Sharks) and David Booth (Toronto Maple Leafs). This year, NHL All-Star MVP John Scott will captain Team USA and is the first of many exciting player announcements. USA and Canada will again reignite one of world sport’s most famous rivalries, all the while raising awareness and funds for the STOPCONCUSSIONSFoundation.
The 2016 Wayne Gretzky Ice Hockey Classic will see Canada v USA for the first time ever in Adelaide being held at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday, 24th June.
2016 Wayne Gretzky Ice Hockey Classic will be contested across Australia in purpose built rinks, showcasing one of the world’s biggest sporting rivalries.
Cult hero, John Scott will be captaining team USA. Scot has played almost 300 NHL games and has recently captained the Pacific Division team to victory in the NHL All-Stars Game
Scott made the team after winning a fan vote, which the NHL tried to prevent. Scott went on to score two goals in the All Stars Game and pick up the MVP award for his performance. His story is being made into a movie, with the unofficial title ‘Hockey Rocky’
The series is being hosted by ‘The Great One’ Wayne Gretzky, who is the only player to ever score more than 200 goals in a NHL season
Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to see Ice Hockey royalty, live in action.
