Menopause The Musical is a 2001 musical with book and lyrics by the very talented Jeanie Linders.
It premiered in March 2001 in Orlando Florida and has been seen by nearly 15 million women.
It follows four mature women shopping for lingerie in a department store. It demonstrates how going through the menopause can unite all women even though they may be polar opposites.
The characters are Power woman who had a powerhouse voice and appeared to be the lead character of the show.
Soap star who was my favourite with her sassy moves and entertaining facial expressions. Especially entertaining when she ended up on the lap of a very red faced male
audience member whilst performing a raunchy lap dance and singing I am having a hot flash.
Housewife and Earth Mother.
They move across each floor from the lingerie, to the cosmetics department, the bathroom, beauty salon and restaurant. Belting out songs about the change of life.
A few of my favourite songs were ‘ Sane and normal girls / Thank you Dr to the tune of California girls.
I’m flashing, The Great Pretender and My Thighs.
They all bond over hot flushes, mood swings, insomnia and many more menopausal symptoms including brain fog.
The audience was mainly composed of middle aged women with a scattering of male companions who can now truly appreciate what we have to endure as our bodies and emotions go through the change. We all cried with laughter from start to finish and ended dancing and singing to a rapturous applause and standing ovation.
I would thoroughly recommend this show and I give it a 9/10. Well done girls. You rocked.
