Hello Friends and welcome to the Brisbane chapter of Eventalaide.
Let’s kick off this great venture with Brisbane’s iconic event, the Royal Queensland
Show more affectionately known as the Ekka. Having not been for years, it was
pleasantly surprising at all it had to offer. Of course it has the sideshow alley with its
rides and show bags, but what really lies within is the offerings to appeal to every
taste. And don’t these tempt all your five senses. Today we are going to highlight
our day from the eyes of a teenager. Shows tend to bring out the inner child in us all
as we each share that excitement and anticipation that comes with a show.
Getting there is affordable with Translink at only $6 for adults and $3 for children.
First stop we hit Brisbane’s City Council’s free portrait and got a great photo. We
then were spoiled with choice with food of every description. From the much-loved
dagwood dogs to the famous Ekka strawberry sundaes.
We couldn’t wait to hit the stalls and see all the animals. Horses, dog shows and
cats. Standing room only as who can resist these beautiful creatures.
The standout highlight of the Ekka for me was the evening entertainment and
fireworks in the main arena. Adrenalin filled action with Hot Wheels drift cars and
FMX bikes. Heart pounding, non stop action. The air filled with Rihanna’s
“Diamonds in the Sky” playing as the night sky exploded with fireworks; resembling
diamond fragments as though you could reach out your hands out and touch them.
Seeing the Ekka as a teenager is something I will recapture again and again. What is
all the fuss about? You have to come and see for yourself, its certainly worth it! Stay
tuned because next time we will bring you the EKKA from a grown up’s perspective.
