Damian Callinan & Paul Calleja – The Wine Bluffs

By Tony Polese · On March 8, 2017

Words by Tania Jezukaitis
I hesitated in seeing this show as being a bit of a wine bore myself i thought this may be too low brow or taking too much piss out of those who love to sniff before they slurp!  I was proven wrong though and this had to be the funniest show I have seen yet at this years Fringe.
Clever wine based humour mixed in with general life observations, like the lack of power in South Australia, had the audience laughing non stop.
Whether your wine knowledge is basic or hits sommelier status they manage to cater to all palates from closet wine cask imbibers to Grange cellar dwellers.  You also learn how to open a corked bottle without a corkscrew- which is an essential skill to have especially when travelling through Europe where screw caps are generally frowned upon.
Be prepared for crowd participation as they try to find and crown the “Wine Wanker” of the show.  Being the wine capital of Australia this highly coveted prize was well contested and surprisingly not a drop of red was spilt during the battle.
