What: Stephen K Amos – The Story So Far
Where: Arts Theatre, Angas St
Duration: 60 minutes
Genre: Comedy
(Reviewed by John Glennie)
This was ‘champagne’ comedy at its very best!
My first time to see him live and I was not disappointed, though I did have a sore stomach from laughing so much. Stephen is a legend amongst comedy circles and has been touring the world for many years.
He is excellent at paying out the audience – and picked out a young couple (who turned out to be Uni students) and, of course, kept coming back to them throughout the show. The venue wasn’t spared either! Being used to playing in large halls he made one comment about a show where he performed “to 5,000 people … you just have to try and imagine that Adelaide”.
One thing I love about British humour is that they have no trouble making fun of themselves, let alone everyone around them. He even managed to make jokes about the loss of his mother and sister but in a very tasteful way.
Stephen also has a few digs at Adelaide, saying that last time bikes were being hired out and ended up in the Torrens. This year they have upgraded to the scooters, which will also probably finish up in the Torrens.
If you love stand-up comedy and love British humour, then please take the time to go and see one of the best at his best!
