Adelaide Fringe Review – Soweto Gospel Choir

By Tony Polese · On February 20, 2017

The Famous Soweto Gospel Choir has set up camp for the next few weeks at the Panama Club in the RCC. They perform their traditional African songs that have been passed down through the generations mixed in with classics like “Hallelujah” and “When the Saints come Marching in” to get you toe tapping.
The choir’s vocal performance is faultless and is only backed by minimal percussion and keyboard.  The songs are interspersed with dancing and the theatrical antics of the singers which really gets the crowd going. A minor criticism would be that the choreography was out of sync at times however as it was delivered with such energy and pure unadulterated joy it didn’t really detract from the overall entertainment value.
At the end you will feel uplifted from the passion and exuberance of this performance but arrive early at the venue to get good seats as views may be obstructed in some areas.
