Adelaide Fringe Review – Gospolation

By Tony Polese · On March 8, 2017

Get ready to have your spirits lifted; toes tapping and hands clapping as you join the Gospolation relevation!
The Gospocollective choir directed by the energetic Charmaine Jones – Devasagayam is made up of 14 core singers plus a huge backing choir and 6 piece band.  Performing their rendition of popular hits by Justin Timberlake; Aretha Franklin and more you can’t help but wanting to sing a long. There are solo performances by the core members throughout but when Ms Jones – Devasagayam takes the lead everyone just gets blasted off the stage.
There was a tribute to the late great Prince however their interpretation of the challenging “When Doves Cry” was disappointing and flat however everything else was a standout.
The set design is kept to a minimum so focus is on the outstanding vocal performance and to add to the cute factor they are joined on stage by the mini me kid choir.
On the whole it was an enjoyable night out at the Cirque Africa Big Top at Hindmarsh square.
