Adelaide Fringe Review -Driftwood

By Tony Polese · On March 10, 2017

Award winning Casus Circus after wowing crowds last Adelaide Fringe return with their new production – Driftwood.

This five member ensemble perform such amazing feats of human strength, beauty and resilience beautifully choreographed against a memorable soundtrack which will leave you breathless.
This piece is a celebration of the human spirit and how we need to connect and be loved which is communicated through touch and movement.  Kali Retallack’s solo performance to the song “Heart’s a Mess” is mesmerising  as she displays both her amazing strength with grace and fragility at the same time.  I could have watch her for the whole 60 minutes!  Kali then pairs up with Abbey Church for hi-jinks on the trapeze where synchronisation is critical otherwise the consequences could be catastrophic.  The flow between all the performers was just effortless.
The male members Natano Faanana and Jesse Scott display superhuman strength and core stability but the most memorable sequence was with smallest acrobat, Lachlan McAuley.  In this comedic scene the team progressively make him undertake increasingly difficult manoeuvres whilst trying to escape.  Also special mention goes to Jesse whose death defying sequence on the trapeze is like nothing you have seen.
Fringe will be finishing soon so hurry as this show is a must see.  I’m so inspired that I better get my drift wood on and head to the gym.
