Comedian Akmal Saleh returns back to Adelaide following on from his appearance on “Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” where D grade personalities go in some desperate attempt to kick start their media career. Akmal attempts to use his time there to inspire comedy gold but given the vacuous jungle participants its not surprising there were few laughs to be found.
The only thing that was transparent with this show was the lack of new material. Other than “taxes; Pauline Hanson and Tony Abbott” parodies it was clear that a portion of his routine was based on old material seen previously and to make up for this Akmal was really pushing to get audience participation to get him over the 60 minute line. Other than some bizarre heckling, the crowd wasn’t having a bar of this leaving Akmal to scramble and rehash more classic gems.
Overall it was still a funny, enjoyable night out but come prepared to offer Akmal some schtick so he can flex his comedic muscle a bit more.
