Selected as a featured event as part of Music SA’s Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, Lunar Boogie is a space-themed, pop-up party exploring launching old school music into the future.
Held on Saturday 27th July from 9pm until 2am at UniSA’s MOD. the event will have you dancing yourself into orbit in an other-worldly atmosphere to the cosmic sounds of some of Adelaide’s finest DJs.
Lunar Boogie is the latest venture for Adelaide music collective Endless Grooves, and follows a string of highly popular events, such as Electric Avenue and Disco Paradiso parties, regular club night DISCO Is Not A Dirty Word, and range of world-class touring acts presented via a monthly residency at Sugar nightclub.
“Through running Endless Grooves over the past few years, I’ve been exposed to a wider range of sounds that wouldn’t otherwise be heard in Adelaide,” Director Nick Gencarelli says. “Lunar Boogie will explore forgotten music that was ahead of it’s time when released, but is more relevant today than ever.”
And there is no better match to co-host an event dedicated to futuristic sounds than MOD. at UniSA, Adelaide’s future-focused Museum of Discovery.
The event forms part of the programming for MOD.’s HEDONISM exhibition and guests are invited to explore the interactive and immersive installations across both levels of the museum.
“HEDONISM focuses on what we can indulge in that will make us feel great for a lifetime, and why not start with dancing?” MOD.’s Exhibitions Coordinator Natalie Carfora says.
Lunar Boogie is headlined by Jura Soundsystem, the production and DJ alias of Isle of Jura label founder Kevin Griffiths.
Griffiths has gained international attention for his floor-filling original productions and edits, in addition to re-issues of highly sought after musical gems. Despite this, he is locally a hidden talent and one of Adelaide’s best-kept secrets.
Joining the bill is Paradise Loft Soundsystem, owners of former Regent Arcade store Paradise Loft Records; and one of the driving forces behind Adelaide’s vinyl culture, brothers Lewis and Ollie Graham will be pulling from their extensive catalogue of imported records to take us on a musical journey to the moon and back.
Rounding things out, Fantastic Black Plastic, the DJ moniker of event organiser and local tastemaker Nick Gencarelli is set to take the stage. One of Adelaide’s most widely appreciated selectors, attendees can look forward to experiencing sounds from the most untouched depths of the cosmos.
Lunar Boogie takes place on Saturday 27th July from 9pm until 2am. Tickets are $15 through Umbrellatix.
