My skeleton is still vibrating after the bone shaking lesson in performance that the Prodigy gave to Adelaide this weekend. Ahead of the gig I spoke to Liam Howlett about the tour, and they were looking forward to carrying the energy from their European tour on to Australia. This is their 12th trip to our shores, and the energy they put into every performance is second to none. It’s difficult to communicate what a Prodigy experience is like, but it’s safe to say if you were not there you missed something epic.
A sold out venue full of pumped fans, a mosh pit and keen crowd vocals reflected the high octane performance of one of the hardest working, high energy bands on the touring circuit in 2019. It’s a testament to their dedication to their craft and fans that The Prodigy keep creating tracks that are as solid across all eras of their work. Their new material from No Tourists blended seamlessly with their classic content, diving as far back as No Good (from The Jilted Generation album) through to We Live Forever, Need Some1 and Timebomb Zone. Keith Flint and MC Maxim were in fine form and worked the crowd, peaking with classic Voodoo People and Smack my Bitch up. Liam played with reworked efforts on some of the classics, never content to pace through the easy path.
The staging and visuals were electric, and valuables were lost along with much sweat by moshing fans. If there was only one point to critique it was that it didn’t go until the early hours and 2,500 pumped up fans left the venue wanting more. I’m sure my hearing will return one day, but it was worth every moment. Do not miss this act next time they hit your city.
