The boys are back in town! No need to introduce themselves as they start their set. We all know them well.
The punk rock band formed in 1994 by lead singer Chris Cheney and double bass player Scott Owen. Both Melbourne boys who were still in school whilst performing gigs at local pubs. In 2002, local drummer Andy Strachan joined the crew, rescued by Cheney from a life of crime, he jokes.
In their 22 years of performing, they haven’t aged a bit, and still perform favourite hits like “Second Solution”, “Prisoner of Society”, “West End Riot”, and “Uncle Harry”. The crowd lapped up every moment, throwing their hands in the air, reaching out, singing lyrics, and crowd surfing.
The band was also enjoying the attention with Cheney slapping hands, Owen spinning his double bass, and Strachan throwing his sticks. There was also a balancing act as Cheney showed off jumping on the bass.
In between songs Cheney commented on the rivalry between South Australia and Victoria, which made the crowd boo.
They played new tracks from their latest album Shift as well. One being called “Death” and “Staring down the barrel,” not what you would expect.
By the end they were called back for an encore and wrapped it up with a few more songs, then called it a night, most likely exhausted. It was a fantastic show.
