The French Market Returns The next best thing to a weekend in France!

By Tony Polese · On November 17, 2022

After a two year absence under Covid restrictions, the Alliance Française d’Adélaïde is set to present its iconic annual French Market on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 November in the leafy Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens, corner Unley Road and Thomas Street, Unley.

With almost 15,000 visitors in 2019, the French Market is recognised as one of the biggest French cultural highlights in the South Australian spring calendar. With great expectations and more entertainment than before, the 2022 Market promises to be bigger and better than ever!

On Friday night the Market’s free entertainment between 5.00pm and 9.00pm includes performances by Les Flaneurs Volants, music with DJ Bennymax and roaming performances. Saturday’s entertainment commences from 2.00pm with performances by Louise Blackwell; Pamplemousse at 4.30pm; Mélange Latino at 6.30pm and DJ Bennymax from 8.00pm along with roaming performances.

The French Market, sponsored by Jarvis Peugeot and supported by the City of Unley and Multicultural Affairs, is a chance to immerse in French culture and enjoy the joie de vivre. Just before the end of the year, it is a great opportunity to buy gift for family and friends such as original books, games or handicrafts as well as fine food delicacies including cheese, macarons, foie gras, and champagne. Visitors will also enjoy – sitting on the grass or at a table eating a raclette, crepes or a croque-monsieur – the guinguette atmosphere with the greatest classics of French music and the Petanque pitch while the children will prepare a face mask with the teachers of the Alliance française.

The Director of the Alliance Française Anne-Lise Heynen-Giri said, ‘The French market is returning after a two-year involuntary break and we are all fully committed to bring it back to life. It is all about bringing together entertainment, products, cuisine and music in a friendly and family atmosphere. The 2022 French market will celebrate the great relationship between France and South Australia and we will do it in music with a glass of wine!’

The 2022 French Market raffle offers 11 fabulous prizes, including a return trip for two to New Caledonia with Air Calin, a semester of French classes at the Alliance Française d’Adelaide, a Multicooker from Tefal, a case of French Champagne, a L’OR barista coffee machine, a beauty basket from L’Occitane, and various gift vouchers.
