Frontier Touring is thrilled to announce that Australian guitar-pop five-piece Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever will be touring Australia in April and May 2021 for their biggest headline performances to date. The seven-leg, Sideways To New Italy Australian Tour will be in celebration of the group’s triumphant second album Sideways To New Italy, released in June and out today on limited-edition 140g rosé-coloured vinyl via Ivy League Records.
The band will perform to audiences at Adelaide’s The Gov on Friday 16 April, Hobart’s Altar on Saturday 17 April, Brisbane’s The Tivoli on Friday 30 April, Fremantle’s Freo Social on Saturday 1 May, Melbourne’s Forum on Friday 14 May, Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Friday 21 May and close out the tour with a show at Canberra’s Kambri – ANU on Saturday 22 May.
“This is happening! After a dirty year, we’re throwing these ones on the boot with love and hope. Fortunate to be joined by the country’s finest. As J. Strummer once said, the future is unwritten. We’re going to do everything in our power to make these shows happen as planned. We acknowledge these shows take place on Aboriginal land and pay our respects to elders past and present. See you in 2021, we’ve missed you 💙RBCF” –Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever
The group will be supported by a number of local acts around the country, 22-year old singer-songwriter Jess Day taking the stage in Adelaide, with three-piece rock group Blank Realm and post-punk solo artist RINSE opening the show in Brisbane. Joining Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever in Fremantle is singer/songwriter/producer Adrian Dzvuke and garage-folk soloist Nika Mo, with pop soloist Elizabeth and post-punk outfit Pinch Points warming audiences in Melbourne. Supporting the band in both Sydney and Canberra will be pop-rock soloist Hayley Mary and bedroom pop project Solo Career.
2020 saw the release of the group’s second studio album Sideways To New Italy, which debuted at #4 on the ARIA Album Chart, #1 on the ARIA Australian Album Chart, #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Album Chart and #2 on the ARIA Physical Album Chart. The album features fan favourites ‘Cars In Space’, ‘She’s There’, ‘Falling Thunder’ and ‘Cameo’ and has garnered praise by critics across the board, receiving a 4.5 star review from Sydney Morning Herald and 4 star reviews from The Guardian, Rolling Stone Australia, Q Magazine, The Music and NME Australia who declared that ‘…lyrically, Rolling Blackouts C.F have gone high-concept.’
‘It’s spontaneous and heartfelt, yet no vocal line is out of place, no lead interjections cry out for attention.’ – Sydney Morning Herald
‘These are songs that, on first listen, sound like recognisably RBCF-esque tracks – you think you get it. Then, sure enough, the melodies worm their way deeper into your head, you notice little nuances, and the songs prove themselves to be more enduring and bulletproof than you could’ve previously imagined.’ – Stereogum
Sideways To New Italy also came in at #10 on Rough Trade’s 2020 Albums of the Year, received Rough Trade’s Album of the Month and earned the group a nomination for an AMP (Australian Music Prize) as well as a nomination for Double J Artist of the Year at this year’s J Awards.
Rolling Blackouts C.F spent the two years pre-lockdown performing at the world’s biggest music festivals, from Coachella, Governors Ball, Pitchfork Music Festival, Primavera, and Shaky Knees to Lowlands, Pukkelpop, Green Man and Splendour in the Grass, plus sold-out headline shows in London, San Diego, San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, Philadelphia and New York City to name just a few.
Don’t miss your chance to see the group perform back on Australian stages. Tickets on sale from 10am local time on Thursday 10 December.
