A very classy, polished and professional show put on by both the supporting artist, Dami Im, and the main act of Human Nature.
Dami warmed the crowd up perfectly with half a dozen solo tracks while playing the grand piano. She played several songs that she has written since winning The X-Factorin 2013, culminating in a very moving and yet-to-be-released song from her forth-coming album. She also did a beautiful cover of Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me. Dami has a beautiful and powerful voice which delighted the appreciative audience. Cannot wait to see her full show at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June!
Human Nature showed their class from the outset when they entered the arena via different entrances at the back and “sang” their way to the stage with the title track from their debut Telling Everybodyalbum. They formed 30 years ago and have spent the last 10 years performing in Las Vegas. Their experience on the Cabaret circuit was evident from flawless choreography, harmonies, humour and audience interaction. The stage setting was perfect, and we were regularly treated to backdrop photos spanning their long career.
They played a great mix from their many albums, appropriately including When We Were Young. We had a few interludes throughout the show with pre-recorded videos with each member recalling highlights from their career. After the first of these they said they had an Instagram survey asking fans for their favourite song. For Adelaide, Louisa was the lucky lady to be brought on stage, seated on a (mobile) sofa, and serenaded with Where Did We Go Wrong?. Throughout the song she was wheeled around the stage on the sofa but definitely looked like she enjoyed every second of it.
Human Nature certainly performed some of their best songs – far too many to mention them all. Highlights for me in the early part of the show were Wishes, a great version of JOK’s Shoutand Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. The latter song also featured Aric and Masha – professional dancers from Dancing With the Stars.
After a couple of their favourite love songs Love Is All Around(Wet, Wet, Wet) and Bridge Over Troubled Water(Simon & Garfunkel) they picked up the tempo with Runaround Sue(Dion). At this stage they brought back Dami Im who performed a song with the group then treated us to a few solo tracks – including a powerful cover of Prince’s Purple Rain– while Human Nature had a change of clothes. She finished with a duet with Andrew singing Good Hands.
The latter part of the concert featured a lot of their Motown classics including I’ll Be There,Baby I Need Your Lovin’, and My Girl– a tribute to Smokey Robinson who took Human Nature under his wing when they first went to Vegas because “they reminded him of The Miracles”.
The hits just kept coming, with Human Nature and the dancers moving up and down the aisles, and serenading the audience sitting on the edge of the stage. They finished with some classics such as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Stop In The Name Of Love, Every Time You Cry(John Farnham & Human Nature) and finishing with The Beatles’ All You Need Is Love.
Human Nature played for over two hours in a flawless performance of professionalism. This is not my normal day-to-day listening music but it was so well done I could not give it anything less than a perfect score. A memorable show and I would definitely see them again!
