After postponing their largest headline tour to date due to COVID-19 (originally scheduled from May – July), The Rubens have now officially announced their re-scheduled tour dates, taking place from Sep – Dec & onsale now. The NSW band will play metro cities for the first time since their 2018 LO LA RU album shows, across venues such as Fortitude Music Hall (Bris), Freo.Social (Freo), The Forum (Melb), and The Enmore Theatre (Syd). After having embarked on 3 regional tours in the past 18 months, the band will be revisiting some old regional favourites as well as some towns they’ve never played before, including Bundaberg, Warrnambool, Shepparton and more.
The tour, presented by triple j, is in celebration of their summer hit, ‘Live In Life’ – which is now certified Platinum. The band performed the track for the Channel 9 broadcast of Music From The Home Front on Anzac Day, which is available to watch back here. Since its November release, ‘Live In Life’ has been a summer anthem across triple j (#1 most played) & the HIT network, as well as spins across Nova National Late Nights & Triple M National Late Night/Weekends. Elsewhere, the track has been hugely embraced by fans across Spotify & Apple Music, totalling over 17 million streams, and generating over 100,000+ Shazams in Australia alone.
The band followed-up ‘Live In Life’ in a big way with the release of the mighty new single ‘Heavy Weather’ a couple of weeks ago. The track, added straight to triple j & HIT National Late Nights, landed at #1 on Spotify’s New Music Friday and saw the band gracing the coveted playlist cover, as well as tremendous support from Apple Music across New Music Daily, Today’s Hits & more. Bursting with colossal hooks that are bound to stay in your head for days, ‘Heavy Weather’ is all about empowerment; an anthem reminding us all to take control of the inner critic and back yourself when times get tough – a message that seems timely in this new world order.
With the new social restrictions in place, the band’s planned ‘Heavy Weather’ video clip had to be canned. Instead, the band are calling for their community help them create a music video in their respective isolation.
“We literally had some video treatments for the song by some dope directors, but all of them couldn’t do it because of the COVID-19 restrictions, so we’ve had to rethink the approach. Given the set back with our tour, we wanted to acknowledge our fans somehow. We thought the best way to do that was to invite them to be in a clip. So we’re asking fans around the world to send in videos of them doing anything they’re doing right now and our good mate Russ is going to do his creative thing and make a boss video with all these videos!”
All details for how to be in the clip can be found on this link – entries close Thurs May 7: www.heavyweather.video
