Paul Dempsey
The Gov, Saturday 15th September 2018
A sold-out Gov crowd were treated to an incredible evening of acoustic music from Something For Kate front man Paul Dempsey – his first solo acoustic show in Adelaide – and support act Ro.
Dempsey crafts an infectious mixture of poetic lyrics, gutsy vocals, and roots-influenced arrangements and regularly displayed a great sense of humour as he interacted with the very responsive crowd.
He enthralled fans with a well-balanced blend of Something For Kate tracks – including ‘Déjà Vu’ and ‘Captain (Million Miles An Hour)’ – with some of his best solo tracks, and there are heaps of those! Throw in some excellent covers with the likes of ‘Ship of Fools’ (World Party), ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ (INXS) and ‘Truly’ (Hazel) to cap off an exquisite night of acoustic music.
I must admit I didn’t know much about Paul prior to this concert but I have definitely been converted and will seek out Something For Kate and his solo albums. Would I see him again in concert? Absolutely!! Rates as one of the best acoustic solo acts I have seen.
