London based alt-pop-duo Oh Wonder hit the Gov for an intimate show in front of a crowd of adoring fans. Vocalists Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West remarked that the Adelaide gig could, in fact, be their most intimate show with fans crowding the stage and interacting with the band throughout the performance.
Vander Gucht and West bought a contagious energy to the show, dancing behind keyboards, singing into the fans ever-present camera phones, the pair has a wonderfully engaging chemistry both vocally and with their stage presence.
In an era where effect-laden vocals have become the norm, it was refreshing to hear artists whose live performance lives up to and even exceeds what you experience listening to their albums.
Bolstered with the backing of a drummer and bassist, Oh Wonder performed a selection of tracks from their 2015 self-titled debut album, as well as their 2017 album Ultralife. With fan favourites including “Drive” and “Lose It” receiving screams of adoration.
While still relatively new to Australian audiences Oh Wonder was able to draw a crowd of dedicated fans on a night where theywere competing with Queen and Grace Jones at different venues across Adelaide. And they didn’t disappoint with a performance that is sure to attract new fans and ensure they continue to their rise to stardom.
