THE GOV RECEIVES FOURTH
AHA(SA) HALL OF FAME
Adelaide’s favourite live music venue, The Gov, received a fourth AHA(SA) Live Music Hall of Fame award at last night’s annual Awards for Excellence.
The accolade recognises The Gov’s ongoing commitment to letting the music play, providing a world-class venue for musicians, supporting growth, opportunity, and access to the arts in an industry hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Owners of The Gov, The Tonkin family, are grateful for the support received over this tricky year.
“Throughout 2020, despite shutdown and restrictions, we have had over 350 live music performances at The Gov,” says Melissa Tonkin.
“This has provided work for artists, technicians, our staff, suppliers and many more people interconnected throughout the local music industry.
“We couldn’t have done it without the AHA(SA) rallying to promote the interests of hotels and entertainment venues and the State Government responding with much-needed funds.
“Our staff have been amazing, bringing a professional, positive and friendly vibe to the whole of the hotel, and we are immensely grateful for all of the bands who have reached out to support us by getting up on stage at The Gov.
“We have also been overwhelmed with support from music lovers, who have let us know that our place is important to their sense of wellbeing and community.
“It’s a heartening thing to hear and gives us a greater drive to make everyone’s experience at The Gov exceptional.”
Ian Horne, General Manager of the AHA|SA says the award is a recognition of The Gov’s long commitment to live music in South Australia.
“The Governor Hindmarsh under the stewardship of the Tonkin family has been an entertainment and live music institution.”
“Even with the horrid year of Covid-19, The Gov has been innovative in its efforts to present live music options for its customers and for its many loyal performers.”
“As it approaches its 30th year under the ownership of the Tonkin family, The Gov epitomises everything you would hope your local pub could be – a gathering place, strong family orientation, and dedication to live music, musicians and performers.”
The award is another acknowledgement for The Gov, which has received 11 AHA(SA) Awards for Best Live Music Venue, 4 AHA(SA) Hall of Fame Awards and 3 AHA National Awards for Best Entertainment Venue, induction into the AMC Hall of Fame in 2017, a Lifetime Achievement Award at the SA Music Awards in 2017, and the inaugural APRA AMCOS Australian Licensee of the Year Award in 2017.
