Meg Mac Review

MEG MAC 1ST OF OCTOBER LOW BLOWS TOURS

WORDS: OLIVIA FABRIS

Meg Mac graced the stage of The Gov this Sunday, touring for the release of her latest album Low Blows and after the performance she gave the crowd I’m sure she is feeling anything but low.

The crowd saw an array of ages, showcasing the diverse range of fans she has and those that truly adore her work. With the doors of The Gov packed from wall to wall the sold out show pleased all with a set that ran for an hour.

Perhaps one of the more distinguishable moments of the set was when Meg sang Cages off of her new album. Cages also dubbed Meg Mac’s ‘October song’ was sung by Meg for the first time in October, given that it was the 1st day of the month and she was rather eager to perform it!

Meg graciously thanked her fans, triple j and everyone that made the tour possible whenever she could. Her back-up singer was mistaken for Meg herself when she first walked on to the stage and it wasn’t until half way through her set that Meg let slip that she was indeed her younger sister, and the harmonies of the two of them combined impressed all.

Another highlight of the set was when Meg live recorded a new song that no one had heard before. The song, in another language saw Meg loop her own voice in different harmonies and sounds over one another and truly showcased just how talented the 27-year-old is.

The hour set saw a great range of all of Meg’s songs with an array of old favourites and plenty from the Low Blow’s album.

With each song sung Meg showed such immense power, strength and emotion as she passionately sang each lyric then continued to thank the crowd once she finished every song with such grace and humility.

Overall, we found at Meg Mac’s gig that she is indeed a truly gifted individual, who stole the attention of the room from the beginning she set foot on stage until the moment she left and was extremely gracious and humble towards her audience and her band.

We rate Meg Mac 9.5/10!
