Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue ignites pop-disco fever in her 15th Album fittingly titled DISCO. Going on from her chart topping 2018 country pop album Golden Kylie jumps once again onto the disco fever train which we know she never truly left.
Kylie is in her absolute disco dream element in this album which begins with her recent single Magic. My standouts for the album include feel-good tracks Real Groove and Monday Grooves which have me throwing disco moves with a big smile on my face.
However, this saturated disco auto-tuned pop album is certainly not for everyone but for her 80s-90s fans DISCO will evoke that lovely nostalgia from long disco-dancing nights with Kylies tunes pouring out of dance clubs. Songs Miss A Thing and Where Does The DJ Go? Will especially transport Kylie fans back to her major chart-topping hits and the dolly pop groove we first fell in love with her music for.
This electric auto-tuned disco album may have you struggling to distinguish between songs with a little bit too much similarity in composition, groove and lyrics. This repetitiveness leads me to believe Kylie rushed making this album and the diva herself could have spent a little bit longer producing and refining the album.
In saying this, DISCO possesses an electric disco groove that is hard to come by in modern music and this repetitive nature makes it the perfect album for young kids to dance and spin around the house to… or at least that’s what I’d picture myself doing if I had this album in my childhood. It really took me back to my younger days of jazz dance class where albums like this were played all lesson long.
Kylie’s DISCO brings us a joyous, shimmy shake disco fever groove in what is the final months of a year to remember but possibly one we would rather forget. This Aussie sweetheart just keeps doing what she loves. I am sure in the future the theatrical princess will put on an entertaining DISCO live performance. Although Kylie is for sure in her element with this disco-pop style, unfortunately her album DISCO felt very autotuned, rushed and repetitive. If you are a small dancing child or a big fan of her 80s disco style you will love it! But it is not for everyone and in my eyes isn’t one of her standout Albums which is why I give DISCO by pop princess Kylie Minogue 5/10.
