In the Chair is a regular feature on Eventalaide, highlighting artists from across Australia and occasionally overseas. Everyone gets the same questions. It is just meant to be a bit of fun so please treat it as such.
Questions by Geoff Jenke
Dave Hudson hails from a long line of musicians and troubadours dating back to 1613 when his great great great great GREAT Grandfather Hamish McHudson first played for the Crown Courts of Europe.
Born and raised in Glenelg, has had over 25 years’ experience in street busking and pub rock. Dave plays guitar and bass but his strength lies in his ability to harmonise and his ear for a melody. He plays in the band, The Australian Alice Cooper Show as well as the Rock Hudson Ensemble.

Name: Dave Hudson
Alias: Huddo, Alice, Rock.
Band: Australian Alice Cooper Show, Rock Hudson Ensemble
In less than 50 words
describe your music, your band and yourself.
I’m unashamedly me: Dave Hudson, born at around age
15. Unfortunately, the work ethic didn’t kick in until 25. Since then; non-conformist
and lover of passion, dedication and killer riffs. Influenced heavily, you
might say, by Alice Cooper. But also, the Beatles. Besides them; no one. OK,
then… Neil Finn too.

What
was the first record you bought with your own money and where from?
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 45rpm (R.I.P. on side B)
from an electrical store with a record section in Elwood, Victoria.
60’s
or 70’s Music:
Why not both??
What
music are you currently listening to?
Having a massive crush at the moment on Bryan Ferry
and in particular; Chris Spedding’s guitar work. Yum!
The
Best live artist/band you’ve seen:
Alice Cooper (like, I have to say that don’t I?) –
really though….Probably MIDNIGHT OIL at the Stagedoor Shandon Hotel circa 1979
– WOW! The ceiling was dripping wet! And then every subsequent time I saw them
after that too… Just an amazing team of passionate musicians all round. Rest in
Peace, Bones.
Your
“In the mood for love” song:
Still partial to Massive Attacks’ ‘Protection’ but I
like Sea Breezes (Bryan Ferry’s version of course!)
Your
favourite Saturday night party record?
Hmmmm, tough one… If not Back in Black, maybe… ‘Are we
not Men No we are Devo’
Your
favourite Sunday morning chill out record?
Just Van Morrison. Just. Van. Morrison.
Which
song do you wish you had written?
Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper!
Roger
Daltry once said “Rock N Roll has no future”. Do you agree with him?
Yes, now. But probably not at the time he said it.
Vinyl,
CD or Streaming?
(Sigh…. The radio. Or play it yourself)
If
you could record or play live with any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?
John Winston Lennon
What
is the most useless talent you have?
Songwriting apparently, if you ask some people. But I
can pick up a basketball with one hand.
Your
finest recorded moment?
Distant Ships, from my solo album: The Journey
If
you could open a show for any artist/band, who would it be?
Anybody really, it would just be a pleasure. I’d love to meet Elvis Costello
too.
Stuck
on a desert island for a year and can only take three albums. What would they
be?
War of the Worlds – Jeff Wayne
Head Injuries – Midnight Oil
Billion Dollar Babies – Alice Cooper
Favourite
all time movie:
Too many to name… of late though… A Quiet Place,
Mother, and the Cloverfield movies
Did
you learn any new skills or take up a new hobby during lockdown?
Well, I got a lot better at recording and mixing music
in the home studio, that’s for sure.
Who
would you rather be for a day, Mick Jagger or Keith Richard?
That’s Easy! Mick.
Best
show you have ever played in your career:
I had a reunion show with an old band of mine once
called Fool’s Errand, about 10 years ago now… That was the best vibe I’d ever
felt on stage; the crowd were just with us and were with them. Last Halloween as
Alice Cooper at the Bridgeway was pretty special too, despite our Snake SLICK
defecating all over me on stage. We smashed it.
Paul
McCartney or Neil Young?
Sorry Sir Paul. Neil!
Who
is the nicest person in Rock n Roll at the moment?
Oh, who do you think? ME! No, Alice Cooper is really.
But I’m next.
What
do you hope the next 12 months holds for you?
I want to take our show to the eastern states.
Victoria loved us but NSW and QUEENSLAND beckon.
