In the Chair is a regular feature on Eventalaide, highlighting artists from across Australia and occasionally overseas. Everyone gets (nearly) the same questions. It is just meant to be a bit of fun so please treat it as such.
Questions by Geoff Jenke
Teenage Dads were four high school friends who hail from the Mornington Peninsula. With a love of music who decided to form a completely self operational band, producing, recording and mixing all their own music.
In late 2021 the band released the 8-track Club Echo EP which contained singles ‘Cheerleader’, ‘Piano Girl’, and ‘Thank You For The Honey, Honey’ as well as five unreleased tracks. The EP received glowing reviews with Happy calling it ‘killer’, Tenner saying “‘Club Echo’ is a coming-of-age capsule full of unique insight, polished off with the band’s own goofy personalities and the electrifying chemistry that they have become known for,“ and NME referring to it as “expressive and experimental”.
Teenage Dads play Jive, Adelaide on Thursday 2 June. Tickets through Moshtix.

In less than 50
words describe your music, your band (if applicable) and yourself.
We are an Indie Rock/Pop band
from the Mornington Peninsula. We play songs that have been said are
reminiscent of bands like The Strokes, Phoenix and Vampire Weekend. We hope you
like these songs. Some are fast, some not as much. Come see for yourself live
in May/June.

What was the first
record you bought with your own money and where from?
First CD I bought was
either Demon Days by Gorillaz, or Crazy Frog’s Popcorn single. Either way it
was purchased from Sanity
80’s or 90’s Music:
I’d say 90’s.
What music are
currently listening to?
Currently listening to Stop
Making Sense- the Talking Heads live album
The Best live
artist/band you’ve seen:
The scale, set design and
performance of the recent Lime Cordiale shows has been pretty massive, but I
really enjoyed seeing Pond in 2018.
Your “In the mood
for love” song:
Rock Your Baby by George
McCrae
Your favourite
Saturday night party record?
Party Record ATM would be
either Parcels’ live album (sounds like a disco/funk mix when played through),
or Kylie Minogue’s Fever
Your favourite
Sunday morning chill out record?
Depression Cherry – Beach
House
Which song do you
wish you had written?
I wish I had written Livin’
on a Prayer, so I could absolutely annihilate the song with changes and no one
would ever want to listen to it again
Roger Daltry once
said “Rock N Roll has no future”. Do you agree with him?
I think no style of music
will survive if it never changes. ‘Rock n Roll’ is not what is used to be, and
that’s a good thing. Only time will really tell.
Vinyl, CD or
Streaming?
Each are good for different
reasons:
– Vinyl: great for playing in a living
room, during a party etc. to set a vibe
– CD: great for indecisive listeners in
the car, or when reception drops out
– Streaming: Playlisting music is easy
If you could record or play live with any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?
If I could play with any member of Dead or Alive it’d have to be Pete Burns.
What is the most
useless talent you have?
Probably playing bass
Your finest
recorded moment?
Triple backflip flat. Easy
Who is your musical
hero and what one question would you ask them?
Slash. Can I wear the hat?
Dying, peacefully
on your death bed, what song would you like to hear?
Happy by Pharrell Williams.
Everyone will hate it, but who’s gonna stop me? It’s my final wish
Stuck on a desert
island for a year and can only take three albums. What would they be?
I’d take three albums with
5+ discs on vinyl. Build a boat
Favourite all time
movie:
Paddington 2
If you drove an ice
cream van, what music would you play?
Probably a dog whistle: ice
cream vans can produce a lot of volume, want to see how far I can make people
annoyed
Best show you have
ever played in your career:
Either our Corner Hotel
headline in December last year, or Roundhouse with Lime Cordiale in 2019
Any backstage
incident that makes you laugh?
Connor was messing around
and accidentally wrote Sweet Child O’ Mine before a show in the late 70’s. So
funny but we let them use it.
Ed Sheeran or Robbie
Williams?
Robbie Williams. Can I kick
it?
Who is the nicest
person in Rock n Roll at the moment?
Felix Bornholdt. Painfully
nice
What do you hope the next 12 months holds for you?
Hopefully we can:
– tour a lot
– go to places we’ve never been and do shows
– release good music
– make a billion dollars

Hot on the heels
of the release of their latest single ‘Exit Sign’, today Teenage Dads have
announced an extensive national tour taking in both capital city and regional
stops.
The 11-stop tour will see Melbourne’s favourite
break-through band of 2022 hitting the road again giving you the chance to see
why their live show has such a monster reputation. Having supported Lime
Cordiale recently on their recent national tour, Connor, Jordy, Vincent, and
Angus are ready to give fans the full headline experience with these
shows.
The band were nominated for Best New Artist at
the Rolling Stone Awards, alongside names including Genesis Owusu and May-A.
