Golden Features put on an incredible live show with an atmosphere comparable to what you would have seen in the likes of big outdoor events such as Stereosonic and Future Music Festival. The lighting, laser show, dj high-rise and backdrop all made for a very impressive stage production filled with a visceral smoke-screen of heavy red and green lighting.
It was admirable to see a DJ (when most other DJ’s would normally play a sample or a remix of their biggest hits) not succumb to this and play (close to) the original recordings which pleased the crowd. ‘No One’ featuring Thelma Plum was one of these hits featured in the setlist which incited a sea of girls on shoulders.
Seeing a DJ walk off nearing the end of the night to come back on for an encore was a little strange to me but stranger than this was what the crowd was chanting to encourage Golden Features to come back on stage for the final two songs.
It started off with the usual clapping, yelling, whistles and foot stomping but it took an unexpected turn with an overwhelmingly vocal crowd singing Bruce Channels’ ‘Hey Baby (ooh, ah)’. At completion of the set, Golden Features took off his mask, revealing his golden locks and thanked what appeared to be a satisfied crowd.
