Adelaide’s beloved annual event is back for another year and we couldn’t be more pleased with the line-up of activities, shows, and events that are available for our entertainment!
I visited the Royal Adelaide Show on Tuesday (September 6) and was impressed by the range of things to do and see at the Show. There were so many rides to choose from – the classic Ferris Wheel ride was a must, so the bearded man and myself went on a ride and were not disappointed. While there is quite a wait to get on the ride, it is certainly well worth it. The top view is always a breathtaking one, as you can get a beautiful overview of the Showgrounds and enjoy the fresh breeze on a sunny day like Adelaide has been recently #blessed with. We also visited the Spooky House and the Crazy Circus – both of which made the child in me feel alive again. I could list out all the rides over here, but where’s the fun in that? To find out more, make sure you make your way to the Show this weekend or miss out and suffer by playing the waiting game for another whole year!
For the little ones (and the adults), there is an entire section dedicated to animals (http://www.theshow.com.au/things-to-see-do/animals.jsp), where you can enjoy feeding and playing with a variety of our four-legged, furry friends. From playing ball with dogs to snuggling a cute bunny to sleep, from milking the cows to making friends with some cheeky alpacas, from watching horses participate in polo to turning on the adrenalin with snakes and geckos, the animal exhibit is a fantastic spot for everyone to get in touch with some seriously beautiful creatures of nature.
For food and drinks, there are countless options of delicious takeaway stalls that are set up in the rides section of the Showgrounds. We were enticed by the aromatic scent emanating from Bodean’z BBQ Grill, which not only delivered with the high quality food at a reasonable price, but their customer service also won me over. The hot dog and pulled pork burgers were wiped out in a flash by two (starving) show-goers. There are other options that cater to the vegetarian/vegan dietary requirements, in addition to places that specialize in desserts and espresso drinks. So, if you are a large group heading out, it might be a good idea to pool together a variety of options so that you can have an enjoyable culinary experience.
In terms of how much to expect on expenses, it really depends on how many people you go with and how much you’re willing to see and do. You can spend anywhere from $50 – $300, so I’d suggest having a look at the Royal Adelaide Show website (http://www.theshow.com.au/home.jsp) first to best figure out your budget. But, be prepared to spend a bit more than you’d like, because it has been an amazing turn-out this year at the Show. There are a number of local and international stores that have got their stalls set up in Market Bazaar – Gametraders, R U OK?, Australian Air Force, RSPCA – in addition to many, many more. There are a lot of exhibits of baking, craft, art, and paintings (among the many exhibits) that are scattered throughout the Show. You’ll need a good 6-8 hours to get a good, fulfilling experience that the Show has to offer.
With 3 days left to go, it’s time to make the most of the final weekend and celebrate at the Show with friends and family. There’s a bit of everything for everyone.
