| Secret Sounds presents FALLS 2022/23 WRAP UP MELBOURNE | BYRON | FREMANTLE It was all sunshine and good vibes as Falls returned after 3 long years, playing host to nearly 65,000 music lovers across the country with three massive events in Melbourne, Byron Bay and Fremantle. The beloved touring festival saw venues light up with live performances from some of the biggest and best acts in the world including Arctic Monkeys, Lil Nas X, Peggy Gou, CHVRCHES, Jamie xx, Amine, Ocean Alley, Camelphat, Spacey Jane and so much more. |

| Melbourne kicked off the festivities with a bang, as almost 20,000 people made their way to the convenient location of Sidney Myer Music Bowl as Falls Downtown Melbourne graced the city for the first time ever. Rico Nasty warmed up the crowd at the El Capitan stage with her ruckus set, before everyone’s childhood favourites The OG Wiggles ignited the festival with their classic singalongs, treating the crowd to a cover of Australian pub-punk legends The Chats’ ‘Pub Feed’ with Wags the Dog, Dorothy the Dinosaur and Captain Feathersword in tow. Young Franco brought his bouncing positive vibes to the festival’s Sugarloaf dance stage, while G Flip joined Peach PRC for a surprise cover of ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ before their own energetic performance. Amyl and The Sniffers’ commanded the stage with their no-holds-barred set and Jamie xx mesmerised as his striking stage lights shone over a sea of captivated fans. That’s before Melburnians saw out the year under a barrage of fireworks after Arctic Monkeys’ uber-cool show on new year’s eve. |
| Byron Bay welcomed the new year as the only camping edition of Falls 2022/2023 with thousands of happy punters staying onsite and taking advantage of the many extra activities at the festival including Palm Springs’ 8 above ground pools (refilled each day using rainwater harvested from the site), beach volleyball, ping pong tables under a big top tent, as well as a number of smaller venues including the Byron Bay Brewery, Pepsi, Smirnoff Seltzer Springs and Jack Daniels Room No. 7 featuring a host of local acts and DJs in addition to the already stacked lineup. Day one saw lovable larrikans Beddy Rays pull a huge crowd at the Galaxy stage, followed by MAY-A who closed out her set with an awesome punk-rock rendition of her and Flume’s banger ‘Say Nothing’. The new year’s eve fun continued across the festival’s three stages and ended with punters welcoming 2023 with Lil Nas X and his stand out festival performance, full to the brim with whimsical graphics, glittering costume changes and a full backflipping dance troop – only the best from the Industry Baby. Close to 20,000 punters kicked off the year at North Byron Parklands with memorable shows from The Vanns, King Stingray, TSHA and so much more, before dance and club culture icon Peggy Gou headlined the Sugarloaf stage on the Starry Night of day two. The third day saw a stunning performance from local heroes Ocean Alley as they lit up the amphitheatre with their rainbow lights and smooth sound, while CamelPhat got the Sugarloaf stage heaving with a mammoth two hour set of their anthemic house music. |
| Fast forward a few days and Falls made its way west, taking over its new downtown location of Fremantle Park. The venue was packed with over 20,000 music lovers flocking through the gates early to make the most of the incredible acts playing across Falls Downtown Freo’s three stages. Fremantle Arts centre hosted the Matterhorn stage kicking off with acts Juno Mamba, Magdalena Bay and Telenova before dance sensations Choomba headlined on day one, and dynamic producer Luude on day two. The two mainstages saw acts play back to back, tag teaming between Falls’ El Capitan and Sugarloaf stages for a non-stop day of live music action. Punters made the most of the chill, shade and crafts area when they needed a break, and got down in the silent nightclub when it was time for a moment alone. It wasn’t too long ago that Spacey Jane opened the mainstage at Falls Downtown Fremantle in 2019. Skip to Falls 2022/2023 and they pulled one of the largest crowds of the whole event, performing at golden hour to a tide of dedicated fans, singing along with open arms, only five minutes away from the band’s home. Scottish outfit CHVRCHES impressed with their tight musicianship and stage presence before Arctic Monkeys closed Falls 2022/2023 with their legendary rock’n’roll show featuring songs carefully selected from their iconic catalogue including crowd faves ‘R U Mine?’, ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ and ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’, plus latest tracks from 2022 album The Car. Co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco said “What a massive run of shows!
