Bank on a great time at the Umbrella Opening Street Party
Enjoy food, booze and a new do to kick off Umbrella: Winter City Sounds.
Music SA and Adelaide Fringe are throwing a massive opening night party on Bank Street on July 13, 5pm-10pm to celebrate the two-week festival.
And as well as a variety of fabulous food supplied by Bank Street vendors, Fat Controller will be bringing out their famous container bar, complete with beverages, and a barber giving free haircuts all night!
In a celebration of local live music, DJs, street vendors, art and good times, Bank Street will play host to the opening of the Umbrella Winter City Sounds festival happening from July 13 to 29.
Sample the fare of local businesses, choose from Fat Man Punch, Alpha Box + Dice wines, and Young Henry beer and cider at Fat Controller’s container bar, and get yourself a short back and sides at the barber.
For your listening pleasure Umbrella’s Opening Street Party will take the chill off and have you toe tapping to some of the stars of Guitars in Bars, among other local musical talents, on a unique stage designed by Adelaide artist David Musch.
Featuring the musical prowess of The Family Bushdance, Hana & Jessie-Lee’s Bad Habits, Hartway, Kuji Koo, J. Hennessy and Joint Ventures, the Umbrella Opening Street Party is free for all ages and will set the scene for the 300 live music events set to sizzle across more than 100 different venues and locations for 17 days of Umbrella: Winter City Sounds.
And you can party well into the night at Fat Controller as they host the Opening Street Party after-party.
Part curated, part open access, the annual two-week festival, Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, allows local and visiting musicians to take Adelaide and outer suburbs by storm.
Thanks to the support of the City of Adelaide and SA Tourism Commission, Umbrella’s diverse curated program of events features a sonic soundscape in the park, beats and a day club, scones with cream and a jam at the Country Women’s Association, foot stomping Americana with warm open fires, a celebration of South Australia’s finest Aboriginal song-women during NAIDOCweek, and, returning for its second year, Music SA’s signature event Scouted.
Mini-fest, Scouted, showcases the best of Adelaide’s unsigned contemporary bands who will have an opportunity to perform to music industry guests in town for the national AIR Awards.
In conjunction with Umbrella: Winter City Sounds and Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), the Scouted mini-fest will take over Adelaide’s west-end for one night only on Friday, July 27.
Across some of Adelaide’s most iconic music venues, 16 emerging artists will perform over four stages at Jive, Rocket Bar, West Oak Hotel and Nexus Arts for Scouted with music industry leaders and independent artists from across Australia having the opportunity to see the quality home grown talent we have here in SA.
But before the program kicks off, get along to the Bank Street party on Friday July 13 to warm up for some Winter City Sounds
There will be dancing in the streets and we’re banking on there being plenty of interest, so don’t miss out or you’ll get withdrawals!
