+ WITH SPECIAL GUESTS POLISH CLUB, VOIID
& THE BUOYS
+ RELEASE NEW TRACK ‘YEAR OF THE DOG
(FEAT. MATT CAUGHTHRAN OF THE BRONX)’
Fresh off the back of a mammoth European tour, and following the news of their fourth full-length LP Positive Rising: Part 1, Australia’s favourite thrash-party hoons DZ Deathraystoday reveal details for their album tour – the Positive Rising: Part 1 Tour (Australia/2019). Throughout October and November the Positive Rising: Part 1 Tour (Australia/2019) will hit Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, with an all ages or under 18 offering in each city.
Joining DZ Deathrays (now a three-piece with the official introduction of long time live guitarist Lachlan Ewbank) will be Sydney two-piece loud rock outfit Polish Club*; all girl, no bullsh!t punk quartet VOIID; and (self-described) sweet and savoury femme four-piece The Buoys. The four outfits rounding out an incredible serving of a line up, positive to make you rise. (*Polish Club will not be playing The Zoo show in Brisbane on Saturday 9 November). DZ Deathrays will be running a pre sale for 24 hours from 10am Tuesday 16 June. Sign up at dzdeathrays.com for early tickets. General public tickets 10am Wednesday 17 June.
Alongside news of the tour, I OH YOU are thrilled to release the second bite from the Positive Rising: Part 1 cherry; this time seeing DZ enlist the help of their mate, The Bronx frontman Matt Caughthran, on ‘Year Of The Dog (feat. Matt Caughthran)’. Revealed just last Friday via the band’s socials, ‘Year Of The Dog (feat. Matt Caughthran)’ is a pedal to the floor thrash-party banger.
After years of love, respect for and shared stages with The Bronx, DZ Deathrays had always hoped to collaborate with Caughthran at some stage. Recording Positive Rising: Part 1 in L.A. with Miro Mackie (St. Vincent, Cold War Kids, Hatchie) and saw it as the perfect opportunity to get Californian local Matt on a track.
“Matt from The Bronx, one of our all-time favourite bands, drove an hour from his house, came into the vocal booth and nailed his part on, like, the first go,” laughs vocalist and guitarist Shane Parsons. “I felt bad for making him drive so far. But it was also just a showcase of how good a vocalist he is… and that was unreal for me, because now with Lachlan in the band, I’ve been trying to approach things from a vocalist’s perspective, and it shows you how hard you’ve got to work.”
DZ treated fans to the first taste of Positive Rising: Part 1 on 13 June with the release of ‘IN-TO-IT’. With all the grit and punch of a DZ anthem, ‘IN-TO-IT’ see’s DZ take a bite into spoken singing and it’s delicious. Parsons rough vocals narrate the punter living for the weekend, shedding light on Australian society’s relationship with alcohol and the impact liquor has as a coping mechanism.
2018 was a huge year for DZ Deathrays with their third LP Bloody Lovely debuting at #4 on the ARIA charts and earning the trio their third ARIA nomination for Best Rock/Heavy Metal Album. DZ Deathrays celebrated their 10th Anniversary with an absurdly large national tour with guests PUP, The Love Junkies, Ali Barter, Press Club, Gooch Palms and Polish Club DJs. Earlier in 2019 DZ Deathrays released an incredible hip-hop collaboration with Australian heavyweights Briggs and Trials and young prodigy Jesswar in ‘Front Row Hustle’.
