“Dynamic, fun and edgy.“
The Music ★★★★“All about the power of self-acceptance.”
triple j, Feature Album

“Full of fist-pumping, bed-jumping goodness, ‘A Suitable Girl’ is the
perfect middle finger up to the patriarchy.
”

FBi Radio, Album Of The Week

“Barter’s voice may pitch and soar with classical confidence, but its backdrop is
a decidedly indie-rock conglomeration of gnarly guitars and
snappy syncopated beats.
”

The Age

“Brilliantly raises the bar of Australian female rock.”
The Daily Telegraph

“Melbourne singer wide awake and kicking in Guyville.”
Rolling Stone

“Invoking the fist-swinging riffs and lyrical bluntness of alt-rockers like L7
and Veruca Salt, A Suitable Girl is Barter uncaged.
”

Ali Barter’s A Suitable Girl was unleashed upon the world to a triumphant reception – debuting at #17 in the ARIA Album Charts, and feature album on triple j, FBi Radio, Radio Adelaideand Rabbit Radio, heralded as “an album that struck a nerve with Australia” (Tone Deaf). Today Ali has revealed the video for her latest single “Please Stay”, shot in Perth and directed by Tay Kaka.

“Please Stay” is Ali at her most raw and vulnerable, another candid musical outpouring and heart-stirring catharsis brought on by the anthems of her youth. Capturing the gentle pleading of a woman feeling messed up and craving affection, “Please Stay” is delivered with an almost cinematic affection and lyricism that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Taylor Swift record, yet maintains the rock tradition with Liz Phair and Veruca Salt style influence.

Kicking off the A Suitable Girl tour in Geelong over the weekend, Ali Barter has now sold out two shows at the Northcote Social Club in her hometown of Melbourne, but has announced an intimate In Conversations at Readings in Carlton. With another sold out show in Wollongong, remaining tickets are selling fast as Ali takes A Suitable Girl from blasting in the bedrooms and on the radios of Australia, live to the stage.

With her heart on her sleeve and electric guitar strapped, Ali Barter live is a show not to be missed. Giving a new generation of music fans something they need now perhaps more than ever, Ali’s voice says simply and authentically: “I get it.”
