The Magnets – Adelaide Fringe 2019 Interview Questions
Interview by Anastasia Lambis
The ultimate 80s party is at the Adelaide Fringe. The Magnets are bringing back the fun with their brilliant vocal harmonies and singing all the big hits of the era of big songs, big hair and big shoulders pads! This is a show of smooth vocals, beatboxing and loads of British charm. The lads took time out of their busy schedule to answer some questions.
You’re no strangers to Adelaide. Are you excited to be back and performing at the Adelaide Fringe?
It’s amazing being back here. This feels like our second home now and we love it. We have 2 new guys in the line-up this year and they’re so excited about the show here in Adelaide.
This year you’re performing in Gluttony. Do you like being in the centre and unofficial hub of the Fringe?
Gluttony has been growing every year and last year when I visited I couldn’t believe the development made by Daniel and his team. We missed performing last year as we had a run of Arena Tours in the UK including the O2 Arena in London for 7 shows. The buzz at Gluttony is amazing!
What can audiences look forward to when they come see your show?
Vocally stunning and more 80s hits than you can imagine. The guys voices and beatbox will astound you and Stevies moves will raise the temp through the roof. You will smile, sing, dance and leave feeling all the better from a Magnets 80s night out.
The show is called Naked 80s. What is it about the 80s and the songs from that decade that you love to perform?
It is really our time as Nick and I were born late 1970s and the others born in the 80s. The songs are timeless classic and there were no limits to styles then. The TV and film from the 80s are also so iconic. We’re covering everything from Michael Jackson, Run DMC, Whitney Houston, Whitesnake and Prince. Some Mega power ballads mixed with rock and electro pop. It’s quite a set list.
Can we expect to see some 80s fashion as well?
Every show we are dressed differently, a little 80s mixed with a bit of now too! There’s some fun in our fashion that’s for sure.
You all seem like a tight knit group. What’s it like to tour and sing together?
The guys are incredible. We’re all best mates, we are close and love signing together. Stevie and Ross went to school together and they trained with Michael in London. They are just so talented. Ross, Stevie and Michael are all leading guys from the West End in London. We Will Rock You, Rent, Rock of Ages, Jersey Boys and Ghost to mention a few. Nic our beatboxer and Musical Director is multi-talented and works on the majority of vocal TV shows in the UK and even on the ‘Pitch Perfect” film series. I also work as a session singer for films like Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean and Mission Impossible. We all bring different talents and look after each other on tour like family.
Describe in one sentence why people should come along to Naked 80s?
The ultimate party sing-along night out for all the family or a bunch of mates! You’ll walk out feeling upbeat and on a high!
