The Oxford Hotel
101 O’Connell Street, North Adelaide
June 15, 2016
There are three C’s that come to mind as soon as you walk through the doors into the freshly revamped Oxford Hotel in North Adelaide: Contemporary, Creative, Comfortable.
New owners Grant and Anastasia Murray have an undeniable affinity for the arts – a passion which they clearly want to share with their customers and have woven into every inch of the transformed building.
The walls that are not covered with vibrant and inspired murals bear an eclectic array of artworks that will surely stimulate interesting conversations even amongst the dullest of company. Dim lighting, mismatched tables and chairs and character furnishings such as the antiquated staircase offer an easy, homely feel while snug little nooks and crannies tucked alongside some large open spaces (as well as an intimate upstairs private function area complete with its own bar) ensures that there is a space for any kind of occasion or crowd.
As part of the overhaul, new Head Chef, Symon Conway-Lyden, has introduced a fresh menu that reflects the artistic energy and passion injected by the creative vision of Grant and Anastasia. There is a substantial move towards a more organic and sustainable approach to food: a locavore lifestyle approach that incorporates a number of unique vegetarian and vegan dishes and creates a diverse range of meals to tantalise all taste buds.
At the hotel’s Wednesday night Revival Launch, guests were treated to snippets of this delicious new menu. Elaborately garnished antipasto platters (complete with delicious Woodside cheeses) were scattered along earthy and rustic table settings while dishes of the likes of crispy Pumpkin Arancini Balls with Parsley Aioli, miniature Oxford Burgers and the Asian inspired silken tofu with shitake mushrooms and fermented black bean sauce were handed around.
The reinvented menu doesn’t stop with the food though. From classic Espresso Martini and Raspberry infused Champagne to the devilishly delicious Apple Crumble Cocktail and refreshing Elderflower Martini, every palate was catered for. However, if cocktails aren’t really your thing, the Oxford also has an extensive list of both locally crafted and imported beer and wine. Cheers to that!
Alongside this new look, feel and taste the Oxford will also be introducing some exciting initiatives in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on ‘ArtSmash,’ live music gigs from local acts, and premier wine tastings – you won’t want to be missing out!
The sophisticated hipster vibe this mish-mash of modern expressive creativity and old world touches creates a moody, worldly space for people to meet and enjoy time together over a drink or hearty meal.
