Last Friday night we had the pleasure of attending The Flying Trunk’s launch night for the unveiling of their brand-new menus and artfully refurbished space. Located in trendy Goodwood at 70 King William Road, the new owners have put a classic French fairy-tale twist on this cosy bar.
So what does it look like now? Upon entering the newly refurbished bar you spot lush velvet chairs, vibrant indoor plants and an enchanting wallpaper mural plastered across the wall. Head past the bar and the friendly tenders and you’ll spot a cosy backroom with stunning velvet chaises, pretty artwork and an antique bookcase filled to the brim with bottles of wine. Ultimately, The Flying Trunk provides the perfect setting for a lavish night sipping cocktails with friends. Not to mention, the stunning décor makes for an insanely stylish backdrop for those insta-worthy pics.
A quick look over their Craft Cocktail menu shows the usual favourites such as the Mojito, Old Fashioned no. 8 and the Espresso Martini. However, as someone who revels in tasting new flavours it’s their long list of specially crafted cocktails that caught my eye.
And to accompany the cocktails stuffed mushrooms, traditional bruschettas, beef tartare and prosciutto pear salad are just some of the tasty treats on offer. Or for something a bit more snacky there’s a small selection of bar snacks along with heavenly sharing platters filled with local cheeses and cured meats.
And for those whose sweet tooth isn’t satisfied enough by the tasty cocktails, there are also a couple of desserts on the menu.
So here’s what we actually tried:
For the cocktails we began the night with a tasty creation labelled Envie. This was a delicately sweet strawberry cocktail with gin, strawberry liqueur and a dash of basil. Our Eventalaide Photographer for the night, whom is pretty particular with her tastes described this as one of the best she’d tasted.
Next for taste was the La Chica de Or. A personal favourite of mine for the evening, this was a tasty concoction of Mezcal, Tequila, Grapefruit and Pineapple. A well-refined mix of sweet and sour, this was the kind of crafted cocktail that has me continually buying more.
To end the night, we had a taste of the classic Espresso Martini. Never a bad finish to the evening with one of these in hand and it was no different with The Flying Trunk’s finely crafted version.
The Flying Trunk wowed me with its lovely new decor and French fairy-tale vibe. Perfectly fitting for the location and the perfect choice for many different occasions. So whether it be drinks and treats with the girls before heading into the city centre, an intimate evening with a date or maybe some drinks following a meal at one of King William Road’s fine restaurants. The bar staff and new owners were incredibly welcoming and passionate about the road ahead, happily spending time to chat with guests. Enchanting vibes and deliciously crafted food and drinks I give the newly made over The Flying Trunk a 10/10.
