The Results are in ………. The Edinburgh GREAT Shiraz Challenge 2019
On Sunday 30 June the 26th annual ‘The Edinburgh GREAT Shiraz Challenge’ was held in the grounds of the Hotel carpark under the big top Marquee. Seven hundred Shiraz Devotees descended upon the 250 plus Shiraz Wines on tasting like moths attracted to the flame. If there was ever a grape variety that just got a collective hug from an audience it would certainly be a big squeeze for Shiraz. Such is the love for this variety that participants travel from all over for the only opportunity in Australia to taste, experience, meet and greet Shiraz; in all its colours and incarnations, along with the winemakers behind the labels. What was really exciting to see is so many younger people discovering Shiraz for perhaps the first time standing shoulder to shoulder with more experienced tasters.
To add another layer of complexity to the day The Edinburgh GREAT Shiraz Challenge 2019 was privileged to present an exclusive masterclass featuring an outstanding panel of multi award winning, dedicated Shiraz specialists celebrating varietal DIVERSITY:- Sarah Crowe Yarra Yering, Alex Head HEAD Wines and Paul Hotker Bleasdale Winery.
