If you haven’t heard through the grapevine already, a fresh new bar has taken up shop on 34 Jetty Road, Glenelg and boy is it set to be a favourite for many. Opening earlier in the month on New Years’ Day, fourth. brings a stunning mix of class, scrumptious local food, liquors and cocktails along with a charming stress-free atmosphere to Glenelg.
Already packed to the brim on a Sunday night, fourth. caters to a new and different crowd by oozing a fantastic blend of simplicity, elegance and spirit, precisely what was missing in lively, well-loved Glenelg. fourth. has superbly managed to create the perfect space for each visitor e.g. bar seating for a fun, vibrant experience, large middle tables allowing for big groups and booths for more of a cosy sit-down lunch or dinner.
Owners Mike Papatolis and brother Henry hold an intriguing story behind the name, fourth. in acknowledgement to the fourth generation of family members to own a business of Jetty Road, Glenelg.
At the bar, a huge range of house and classic cocktails, boutique wine list, craft beers and large range of whiskey and unique G&Ts is on offer making it almost difficult to choose what beverage(s) to order at the bar. We tried the Andy Taplin (humorously named after their landlord) their Negroni and a Jalapeño Margarita.
The Andy Taplin was a fresh mix of apricot brandy, Sloe gin and lime that created perfectly balanced cocktail with an exciting combination of sweet, sour and fruity flavours and topped with decadent freeze-dried strawberries. The Negroni was classic and fresh. By far the most curious and noteworthy cocktail, the Jalapeño Margarita. For those looking for something a bit different, or lovers of chilli this is the one for you. Still well-composed this cocktail is a fun twist on a classic that will electrify your senses.
As for the menu, its packed with locally sourced fresh produce that is created into charming dishes that pair perfectly with their cocktails. Their menu is said to change seasonally to accommodate the use of fresh South Australian produce and they are even open for Breakfast and Lunch with a separate menu.
We tried the Sweet Potato & Falafel which had a Miso glazed sweet potato, fermented chilli, cashew cream and puffed rice and the Coconut fried chicken with pickled Jalapeño and Coriander Aioli. For the Sweet potato and falafel attention was on the flavours for this dish and how they strikingly complemented and combined with each other in a simple yet divine manner. As for the coconut chicken, this dish was a tasty treat that made for a great snack whilst sipping one of their House Cocktails.
Perfect for a relaxed morning, lunch or evening by the beach or as the first stop in a night out with the girls we loved the energy of fourth. right from the minute we stepped through the doors. The restaurant and bar staff presented a great enthusiastic and polite energy. At times staff members could have been slightly more attentive, but given the hustle and bustle of the newly established place business is something that will easily be improved on.
fourth. was a delectable, elegant and exciting experience that has me eager to return for more and excited for the future of this new exciting establishment.
