JAMAICA BLUE (Myer Centre Rundle Mall)- Summer Menu
Words by Geoff Jenke
Whether it’s breakfast, brunch, lunch, a sweet treat or just a quick coffee to-go, Jamaica Blue, located on the Promenade level of the Myer Centre, Rundle Mall, is sure a hard place to beat for wonderful food, great coffees and delightful service. They open nice and early at 7.30 am Monday to Saturday (Sunday they get a small sleep in and open at 10am) so it is the ideal place to meet friends for a breakfast before going to work or shop. Also, an idea venue for that early morning (or anytime of the day) “work meeting” over a coffee.
My friend Tony and I decided on a brunch on a very hot 41-degree day. A delightful Jamaican Christmas Iced Tea soon had us refreshed. It consisted of their own blended tea, Hibiscus Syrup, fresh oranges and a Cinnamon Quill to give it even a more exquisite flavour.
Not being quite lunch and not having had breakfast we decided on the breakfast menu for something to eat. I got a bit adventurous in picking the Avocado Smash & Maple Bacon, not being a huge fan of avocado and also, I have never had a “smash” in my life. You are now talking to a convert. The toast was covered with smashed avocado, fetta cheese with a serving of maple glazed bacon and a poached egg on top.
Tony decided on Lemon Cottage Cheese Avocado & Dukkah on toast and our wonderful host Mona convinced him to a serving of smoked salmon with it. Tony said it was very light but full of flavour with lots of salmon and avocado. All the ingredients worked great together to give it a flavour full of zest. Perfect dish for a hot summer day.
To compliment these dishes, we shared a Super Fruit Bowl, filled with fresh banana, cranberries, strawberries, coconut, seeds, yoghurt with chia and almond milk. It was as delicious as it sounds.
Normally I would have a coffee with breakfast, but with the temperature rapidly rising to 41 degrees outside (although nice a cool inside) I decided on a Kiwi, pineapple, lime, ginger and coconut milk smoothie and it didn’t disappoint. Just the right amount of ginger flavour coming through.
While we were sampling the breakfast items on the menu, Jamaica Blue still retains all the lunch favourites like Chicken & Mushroom Crepes, Vintage Ground Beef Burger and many other choices. There are numerous choices on the menu for a full lunch or just a sandwich or roll.
A children’s menu (for the Little Pirates) looked inviting, but I guess I was too old for that.
It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a leisurely long lunch with friends, a romantic interlude with your partner, or just in need of a quick coffee and a bite to eat, Jamaica Blue is the place for you. They have ready to go options for those in a hurry as well as a’ la carte menu. They even have their own free magazine for you to read if you happen to be on your own.
Looking to get out of the heat? Head to Jamaica Blue in the Mall where Mona and her crew will look after you with food and drinks made with a generous serving of TLC.
You won’t be disappointed.
Warning – dad joke!
“I decided to take my wife to that “Blue” restaurant in the Myer Centre in the city yesterday”
“What Jamaica?”
“No, she came of her own accord”.
Sorry!
