JAMAICA BLUE (Myer Centre Rundle Mall)- Summer Menu Review

JAMAICA BLUE (Myer Centre Rundle Mall)- Summer Menu

Words by Geoff Jenke

To be honest, I have walked past Jamaica Blue many times over the past few years and had always thought, “I must try that one day. It looks good”. So, an invitation from Tony Polese to sample Jamaica Blue’s new summer menu could not be refused.

Located on the Promenade level of the Myer Centre Rundle Mall, the café was already busy when we arrived at 11am. We were warmly greeted by the owner, Mona, who sat with us for some time, updating everything that has been going on with the business and to, well, just have some friendly talk.

It was a warm mid 30-degree day so we by passed the offer of a coffee, electing to try the smoothies. A Kiwi, orange, pineapple, lime, ginger & coconut milk for Tony and a Mango, cardamom, chia & coconut milk for me. Delicious.

They pride themselves with high-quality dishes that are made on the premises and prepared using local ingredients. I was amazed at how delicious some of the serves were using simple but fresh quality ingredients. From the breakfast menu I had the Avocado Smash & Maple Bacon which was divine, complete with tomato and onion, maple bacon and a poached egg on top. Tony opted for the Lemon Cottage Cheese, Avocado & Dukkah on Toast with Smoked Salmon. The smile on his face when eating it said it all. You can order from the breakfast menu all day as well.

For lunch there are plenty of breads and rolls to choose from or you can go the Classic Fish & Chips or choice of Burgers. For me I couldn’t go past the Chicken & Mushroom Crepes. The crepes were packed with chicken, mushroom, baby spinach, ricotta and cheese.

Jamaica Blue also has a cabinet packed with divine looking desserts that you can enjoy with your meal or just with a cup of coffee. They also have a variety of slices available.

There is also a good children’s menu (for the Little Pirates) I was tempted to try the Pikelet Stack with Bananas and Choc Chips but I don’t qualify as under 12.

It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a leisurely long lunch with friends or with your partner, or in need of a quick coffee and a bite to eat, Jamaica Blue is the place for you. They have ready to go options for those in a hurry as well as a’ la carte menu. They even have their own free magazine for you to read if you happen to be on your own.

As that once famous gentleman once said “Do yourself a favour” and check the award-winning Jamaica Blue soon. You won’t be disappointed.
