Jamaica Blue Myer Centre Adelaide – Winter Menu review (perfect winter comfort food for the soul)

By Tony Polese · On July 19, 2016

From the minute I walked into this place I felt right at home!  It has a buzz and energy about it; you really have to check it out.   Situated on the 2nd floor in the Myer centre, over looking Rundle Mall, it’s the perfect stop for your daily coffee fix, or maybe a long lunch to get you out of the office.  And if any more reason was needed to pop in….Dinner is available Fridays . An option which proves very popular with the local retailers.

On arrival we were greeted by the owner Mona, she took the time to sit down with us and go over the menu, and to tell us a little bit about herself and her story!  With an impressive back ground in hospitality spanning over 10 years, I knew I was in for a treat,  Mona has done it all.

It was time to check out the menu; if you love your winter comfort food you can’t look past this place; on offer are all your classic favourites ; from bacon & eggs;  vanilla pancakes, smoothies; a selection of burgers,  fish and chips (the batter is perfectly cooked) as well as handmade pastries and cakes, which are all made on site and are simply divine, I literally wanted one of everything.

What stood out to me was the Breakfast menu, their take on bacon and eggs is particularly creative & fantastic.  There really is something here for everyone.  We had the Avocado Smash & Maple Bacon with Poached Egg, I can’t say enough good things about this, it was delicious, and in particular the maple sauce was a winner for me.

We also tried the Open Scotch Fillet Sandwich; the meat was perfectly cooked, and the fillings were light and fresh, with an oh so tasty aioli sauce; the boys will love this one.

If you are vegetarian, don’t worry as there are plenty of options to choose from.  The option I tried was a toasted flat bread, with spinach, ricotta & pumpkin.  This combination of ricotta and pumpkin is just delish.

I must make special mention of their Botanicals Soda range of drinks, these are the perfect thirst quenchers, and will go down a treat in the warmer months.  Ours was the Pommie Granite and Blue Berries mix, it is seriously good.

So rounding out this review….this is no ordinary café; Mona has put her heart and soul into this place. It is after all, her place. With a great menu, warm and friendly staff, you honestly can’t go wrong.

Jamaica blue even has their own quarterly mini magazine, with lots of interesting stuff to hold your interest.  Oh and be sure to try one of their 3 blends of coffees, they are some of the best around.

Thank you for the experience Mona.  Also a big thank you for the chocolate brownie Sundae, and the lemon Sugar muffin I took home; these were gone in an instant.
