Earlier in the week we popped into Norwood’s bustling Parade Central Mall to check out new Japanese restaurant Hanamura Norwood.
On arrival, this elegantly finished restaurant stuns with beautiful lilac wisteria’s draped over the seated areas and stylish wood finishes.
The menus, delightfully decorated with little watercolour designs, boasts a huge range of your favourite Japanese dishes and an extensive list of fantastic mocktails, cocktails and Japanese wine, spirits and beverages. The food menu has everything you would look for and more with favourites such as gyoza, sashimi, sushi rolls, nigiri, skewers and even includes a range of salads and noodles. A handful of charming and tasty-looking desserts are also there to choose from, if you haven’t already filled your tummy.
So, here’s what we tasted
Colada Mocktail – This was a fresh and sweet alcohol-free version of the classic Pina Colada. Classic and juicy with a perfect mix of each flavour.
Edamame Beans – We started off our meals with this classic little appetiser to snack on. The beans were crisp and flavoursome.
Vegetable Gyoza – An all-time favourite of mine and Hanamura definitely delivered. Nicely balanced flavours, just the right amount of oil and a tasty chilli-soy sauce to accompany.
Mixed Sashimi – The mixed sashimi plate included an assortment of salmon, tuna and kingfish sashimi. I have not always been a fan of sashimi, it has to be done right and well for me to enjoy it and Hanamura delivered. The sashimi was fresh and cut well, a divine experience for the senses.
Meat Lover Skewer Plate – Consisting of six skewers, two chicken tenderloin with a teriyaki sauce and chilli mayo, two beef with a parsley butter and two miso-marinated salmon. Although not my personal favourite dish, this plate was a full-flavoured, expertly-grilled assortment of different meats. A great option for those who are not so keen on sushi or sashimi.
Nigiri Set – This was a typical sushi platter which included an assortment of Salmon, kingfish and prawn nigiri, accompanied by four crispy shrimp and avocado rolls. Tasty and freshly made, perfect for a lunch meal on the go, nothing to fault with this dish.
Hanamura Norwood delighted us with it’s ornamental and lush design and fantastically fresh and refined Japanese dishes. The menu’s included an abundant amount of classic Japanese dishes and beverages to choose from. In saying this, an inclusion of some less-typical, more traditional or fusion-type dishes on the menu would have thrilled me given I am always looking to taste new, exciting food.
With a soon to be operating sushi train with overlooking bar stools, smaller more private tables and intimate booths Hanamura provides a trendy setting for a tasty treat before or after a movie at the neighbouring Hoyts Cinema, or a quick meal for your busy day at work.
