THE ADELAIDE FOOD FRINGE LAUNCHES,
MAKE A STAND DAY
A Celebration Of Kids, Community And The Humble Lemonade Stand
After releasing a program of over 50 events, South Australia’s newest open-access festival – The Adelaide Food Fringe – today announced a statewide event called “Make A Stand Day” as the final piece of their inaugural program.
To be held at kid’s homes across the state on Sunday 5 April, Make A Stand Day is an event with free registration aimed at kids selling their homemade lemonade from theirlemonade stand at their home to their community.
Make A Stand Day is all about providing kids with a fun and easy learning opportunity to participate in a major festival as a food business, Adelaide Food Fringe Director Vic Pisani said.
“It’s totally free to register. The festival will not make a cent from it but kids that participate will.
“Our motivation is to get kids outside and away from screens to engage in a simple and creative food event that they produce and run themselves under the supervision of an adult.
“The humble lemonade stand offers so many educational opportunities from learning about food waste, maths, science, health, entrepreneurship to the importance of social engagement, teamwork and community in their neighbourhood.
“We’re really excited about this and who knows, this might be the event that inspires Adelaide’s next great chef, beverage business entrepreneur or our next Rosa Matto”
The Adelaide Food Fringe also announced Rosa Matto as their first-ever Make A Stand Day ambassador. Rosa is an Adelaide Food legend and passionate advocate for the power of food and the quality of South Australian produce
“Make A Stand Day event is such a wonderful idea, teaching South Australia’s kids life’s basic necessities such as food preparation and economics. I’m thrilled to be involved in this fantastic event and can’t wait to see all the lemonade stands pop-up across South Australia,” said Ms Matto
To register kids will need a supervising adult who can register atadelaidefoodfringe.com.au and registrations are limited to participating council areas.
Registrations open Thursday 27 February, closing on Monday 23 March followed by the full program of all lemonade stands published on 30 March for the Make A Stand day on Sunday 5 April.
